How long does it take to get to Jupiter?

Answer : The location of Jupiter in its orbit and the mode of transportation are two of the many variables that affect how long it takes to get to Jupiter.

For instance, it took around 6.5 years for NASA’s Voyager 1 probe, which was launched in 1977 and is now the object that is currently the furthest away from Earth, to get to Jupiter. Voyager 1 was launched on a trajectory that took advantage of a rare alignment of the planets, which made for a comparatively quick journey.

The journey to Jupiter would take significantly longer if it were more common. For instance, it took the 2011-launched Juno spacecraft over 5 years to get at Jupiter while moving at a speed of around 265,000 kilometres per hour (165,000 miles per hour) from the Sun.

It would probably take several years or possibly decades to go to Jupiter from Earth if you were utilising today’s technology. The trajectory chosen and the spacecraft’s speed would determine the precise time.
